Employees of Amazon in New York City may have heard about the death of one of their colleagues in a neighboring state. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration reported that it had opened an investigation into an incident that occurred on a recent Tuesday. A 28-year-old Amazon employee suffered fatal workplace injuries.

According to a report by the county coroner, the employee suffered several traumatic injuries in the incident that occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Not many details were made available, except that the worker was in the process of hooking up a trailer to a big rig when he was run over by the truck. The circumstances that led to the incident have yet to be determined.

A spokesperson for the federal safety agency says a similar incident claimed the life of a worker at this warehouse in 2014. Reportedly, that incident involved a female worker who was crushed to death between a pallet truck and a storage rack. OSHA investigators will likely focus on the company’s compliance with safety regulations.

As in New York City, the surviving family members of the man who suffered fatal workplace injuries in this incident will be entitled to seek financial support through the workers’ compensation insurance program for their state. They will be allowed to file survivors’ benefits claims which typically includes compensation to cover the expenses related to end-of-life arrangements. Furthermore, a wage-replacement package may be included to assist with day-to-day living expenses in the aftermath of the tragedy, as well as financial obligations such as rental or mortgage payments.
